Nathan Roberson
Statistician - Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the International Migration Division • PLC 2008

Degree(s): International Relations

Professional background, interests and expertise: Both as an undergrad and grad student, I have been very interested in issues of migration and how societies go about integrating immigrants into their new communities. At the OECD, I work in the International Migration Division developing indicators to monitor and track immigrant integration into OECD countries.

Prior to working at the OECD, I worked both in higher education at the University of British Columbia doing institutional research, which consisted mostly of data analysis and research design work for internal program evaluation. In addition, I also worked for three years in education policy at APA Consulting in Denver, CO where I worked extensively in program evaluation and school finance adequacy and equity studies.

Hours available for mentoring per month: 1-5

Best professional advice: International policy and international development work is very exciting and rewarding, and can be very challenging to break into. My advice for students wanting to pursue this field is to recognize that a while a liberal arts framework is a necessary condition for this field in order to think critically and consider ethics, one must also be very specialized (perhaps in certain languages, regional affairs, economics, or in my case statistics).
