Morgan Flynn
Consultant - Energy and Envinronmental Efficiency, Hitachi Insight Group • PLC 2010

Degree(s): B.A. Economics and History

Professional background, interests and expertise: At CU, I studied History and Economics and completed a number of internships in the non-profit/ government sector (for a national security-oriented think tank, the U.S. State Department, and political campaigns). Before fully committing to government-type work, I decided to check out the private sector. After graduating from CU Boulder in the Spring of 2014, I started with Hitachi, primarily working on projects within their Energy and Environmental Efficiency group. I've done work for companies across a variety of industries - Telecommunications, HVAC and Building Controls, Steel Manufacturing, Airports, and Municipalities. I've worked in Brazil and Spain (I speak Spanish and Portuguese) as well as Taipei, and Japan. I do pretty typical management consulting work--data collection and analysis, market research, strategy assessment, proposal and business case development, process design, etc.

In my free time you can find me skiing, hiking, concert-going, studying foreign languages, and planning my next travel adventure.

Hours available for mentoring per month: 5-10

Best professional advice: Consulting is a wonderful career for people looking to explore a wide range of industries and to develop a broad range of skillsets. To thrive in the industry, you have to be able to work well in a fast-paced environment, learn and adapt quickly, and problem solve. I don't know what I want to do when I grow up (and probably never will), so consulting proved to be a good first job for me--my role and work are constantly changing, and I'm exposed to a variety of organizations and potential career paths. I'd be happy to be a resource for students interested in getting a job in management consulting or energy/building efficiency and/or for students curious about working internationally!
