I’m a first generation Congolese-American born in Texas and raised in Colorado so I consider myself a native. With the immigrant perspective in mind I have viewed leadership as hard work and attitude being your only guarantees. This can lead to a servant type leadership where the leader works to promote the followers of a movement whether it be by doing more work behind the scenes or acting selfless for others. Learning servant leadership is a highlight of my time with PLC, but my overall experience has not been completely welcoming. Cultural differences and almost all backgrounds being different from mine made bonding difficult, but I have met a couple of my best friends through this program. I major in EBIO hoping to one day own my own dental clinic in the eastern Congo.
