When thinking of diversity, political and religious beliefs aren’t the first issues that come to mind. Engaging in conversations with others while maintaining my Catholic and conservative values isn’t always a walk in the park, but it has greatly, and positively, affected my leadership style. Being open to all opinions and perspectives is so important to keep the conversation productive and to upholding a necessary level of respect. As a political science major, my passion for politics, debate, and pursuing truth are constantly in play and I am able to have meaningful discussions with fellow students who come from all walks of life. In PLC, I have found my people- my friends who have radically different beliefs but still respect mine, and thus, we all grow into more diverse, more inclusive individuals.
