Cassandra Collins
Assistant Principal, Strive Preparatory Schools • PLC 2007

Degree(s): Psychology

Professional background, interests and expertise: Initially I did not plan to work in education; however, after my two years as a Corps Member with TFA, I have totally shifted my focus. I work now to expand opportunities for frequently underserved students. The field of education needs incredibly talented individuals, and there are many central and administrative roles that don't require teaching experience. Outside of school, I also serve as a beer consultant for a local liquor store. I brewed beer with my dad and turned the hobby into a small paying job.

Hours available for mentoring per month: 5-8

Best professional advice: If you know you want to teach, observe as many schools and teachers as possible. Get teaching experience, and more importantly, feedback, as much as you can. If you're not sure about
education, consider all of the different intersections--health, transportation, data analysis--on which the education system in our country depends.
