Campaigns to Fund
Choose a Cause
PLC has different areas that require fund raising efforts, some that require targeted fund raising. Below are the different efforts or campaigns currently in place for PLC. If you are particularly passionate about a certain area of programming or PLC initiative, and do not see a good location in which to donate your funds to that particular need, please contact PLC Director Aaron Roof to discuss the best way to donate to the program.
PLC Signature Experiences
PLC is dedicated to supporting our students pursuing experiential transformation abroad, and here at home. The Dr. Larry Allen Endowment supports PLC financial assistance for students who want to participate and grow through experiences they don't find elsewhere. We believe in providing transformational experiences for our students - this includes immersive global travel, wilderness leadership courses and supporting life changing student opportunities.
For example, we have created our own global course, partnered with organizations, found campus partners, and dedicated funds in order to provide as many PLC students as possible with a global experience. Currently, we have bookmarked approximately $15K in PLC funds to help underwrite the costs of programming and tuition for PLC students who want to experience immersive global learning during Maymester and over the summer. On top of the $15K, we also award scholarship dollars to students to apply for Enrichment Fund Scholarships to help alleviate the financial burden of going abroad.
We need your help with donations to the Dr. Larry Allen Endowment in order to send more PLCers to international locales to grow as students, leaders, and citizens of the world.
Double the Scholarship
It is time to bring our initial scholarship amount into the current era! From as far back as we know, the PLC scholarship has remained static at $1,000 for the first year of the program. In some years of the program, another $1,000 was automatically awarded to second year students. Whether it was $1k or $2k, the scholarship amount has never been competitive with other programs on campus or nationwide for the caliber of programming and development provided to our students. The PLC Board of Advocates has initiated a campaign to double the initial, guaranteed scholarship for first-year students to $2,000. PLC needs to be able to offer a higher scholarship to attract the students that have that PLC "magic" but lack the money to attend CU Boulder.
Keep the Torch Burning
PLC Torchbearers are designated by a donation amount of $25K or more, either as a single donation, or made through pledge amounts over the course of 1 to 5 years. Torchbearer donations usually go towards building the William A. Douglas Endowment, but individuals can decide to place it in the Presidents Leadership Class Fund for immediate and non-interest earning use, or create an endowment or scholarship of their own. These donors are honored by having their names etched onto a plaque in the PLC office and are gifted a limited edition lapel pin and coaster to commemorate their generosity. The Torchbearer name came from one of PLC's historical logos with a torch of academia surrounded by the letters P, L, and C. This logo was adored by former PLC Academic Director, Ron Billingsley. To honor his time and continued dedication to the program, former Director of PLC, Steve Dinauer, started the Torchbearer donation campaign named as such to honor the legacy of the program and the talented people who have dedicated their talent to keeping the program at its best.

Keep the PLC Traditions going and going and going...
Donations are that made and marked as unrestricted can be used for program operating needs as well as student scholarships. Operating needs include Experiential Weekends, First-Year Orientation, Second-Year Re-Orientation, the Third Year Retreat, the Senior BBQ, Parents Lecture, Taste of PLC, PLC Selection Interviews, etc. Though we do have a small operating account funded by the university, this fund is critical in covering more than 60% of operating expenses of PLC each year. Recurring donations are a great way to replenish this fund with smaller dollar amounts each month. However, if you can only give once a year, the program will benefit from anything you can give.
