Brian Kirtland
Senior Structural Engineer • PLC 1994

Degree(s): BS in Civil with emphasis on Structural Engineering

Professional background, interests and expertise:

I design structural systems for large-scale utility solar plants. In particular, tracking systems where solar panels track the movements of the sun and maximize power production.

My career began with designing buildings and bridges as a consulting engineer.  I have had the opportunity to design a number of academic and commercial buildings in Colorado and Texas.  While developing my career, an opportunity to design solar came, and I discovered a new path and career development.  This new path includes the fundamentals of design, but includes the entire process of manufacturing, logistics, construction, commissioning and maintenance.

I am licensed as a professional engineer in seven states.  My interest are in technical design but also project management and relationships required to achieve success.

Hours available for mentoring per month: 3-4

Best professional advice: Always be learning, experience other cultures and countries as much as possible, and listen as much as you want to talk.
