Col Dodds graduated from Iowa State University and was commissioned through the Platoon Leaders Class program in December 1992. 

Col Dodds’ command and officer in charge assignments include:  Communications and Maintenance Platoon Commander, Marine Air Support Squadron (MASS) 2; Direct Air Support Center (DASC) OIC, MASS-2; DASC OIC, MASS-3; DASC Main Detachment OIC for Operation Iraqi Freedom I (OIF), MASS-3;  Detachment OIC for OIF II, MASS-3; Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Phoenix; Commanding Officer, Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron 38; Detachment Commander, Marine Air Control Group 38 Detachment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; Commanding Officer, Marine Air Control Group 28; Commanding Officer, Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response - Africa 19.1.

Col Dodds’ staff assignments include: Operations Officer, Recruiting Station Des Moines; Operations Officer and Executive Officer, MASS-3; Air Command and Control Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF); I MEF Liaison Officer to Multi-National Division North; Transition Task Force Officer, APX, Aviation Hallway, HQMC; Deputy Division Head for Reachback Division, Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

Col Dodds is a graduate of Amphibious Warfare School, USMC Command and Staff (non-resident), and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
