Seniors Benjamin Mellinkoff and Matthew Spydell were hunkered down Wednesday in front of vast computer screens, with wrenches, screwdrivers and safety goggles hanging on the wall behind their monitors. A robotic arm sat at their feet. Near a window that overlooked Folsom Field, one of the lab's rovers — formerly a toy car stripped and souped up with cameras and new technology — is perched on a table.
