  • Retired journalist, most recently employed as editor and vice president of the Daily Camera in Boulder

After 30 years as a newspaper editor and reporter who broke through many glass ceilings, I retired to work with journalists and nonprofit organizations in Colorado. I've taught journalism and served on the City of Boulder’s Downtown Management Commission, and on the boards of the Dairy Arts Center, the Imagine! Foundation, the Boulder History Museum (now the Museum of Boulder), and Historic Boulder. I have been a Rotarian since the late 1980s. As a member of the Boulder Rotary Club during its centennial year in 2018-19, I wrote a published history of the club, for which she received the club's Lifetime Achievement Award. I also served on its board and was Rotarian of the Year.
Professionally I spent 14 years in two stints with the Daily Camera in Boulder, retiring in 2007. I was assistant managing editor at Denver’s Rocky Mountain News, and editor and vice president of The Sun News in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I have a master's degree in journalism from the University of Colorado and a bachelor's degree in English from Knox College.

My advice to students...

It's important to be yourself. In the early days of my career I felt that I needed to be more authoritarian than I really felt. I quickly realized that my success lay in fostering collaboration and team-building among the people I worked with, rather than just telling them what to do. We were able to use that teamwork to produce outstanding publications that were honored nationally as examples of excellence.
