Kiewit Design-Build Scholars Program

The Kiewit Design-Build Scholars Program prepares CU Engineering students to lead in the infrastructure and construction engineering industry. The program is supported by Kiewit Corporation, one of the largest and most respected design-build firms in North America. Kiewit supports large-scale projects including transportation, power, buildings (including the new Code Talker residence hall), water, oil & gas, mining, marine, and more.

2025-26 Kiewit Scholars cohort + mentors + admins

Rooted in Kiewit’s core values, the Kiewit Design-Build Scholars Program emphasizes four core elements:

  • Professional development and bi-weekly cohort meetings
  • Industry professional mentorship
  • Guaranteed internship opportunities with Kiewit
  • Scholarship support that helps make engineering education more accessible

The program connects Scholars directly with current Kiewit professionals and real-world projects, helping Scholars build leadership skills, professional self-efficacy, and technical expertise before graduation. Through internships, mentorship opportunities, site visits, and cohort-based programming, students gain a deeper understanding of how engineering solutions shape communities and infrastructure systems in communities.

Scholars also participate in site tours locally and out-of-state, networking events, and hands-on learning experiences that bridge classroom learning with industry practice. These experiences help students better understand career pathways while expanding their professional networks and leadership capabilities.

Since launching in 2020, the program has grown into a nationally distinctive model for industry-university collaboration. In 2026, Kiewit Corporation renewed its commitment to the program through 2032 with a $2.5 million investment that will continue supporting future generations of student leaders at CU Engineering.
