The Leading EDGE takes on a new legacy

Leading EDGE students working on mission

The Leading EDGE Council is the student group within the Center for Leadership that focuses on developing leadership skills, serving the community, and forming social connections across all Center programs through Enrichment, Development, Growth, and Experience. The council aims to create and implement innovative opportunities for students enrolled in Affiliate Programs, to enhance their leadership education and journey. The ultimate goal is to build a united campus community that values the importance of shaping tomorrow's leaders.

This year, the Leading EDGE Council has grown its membership to include more affiliate student representatives and is providing them with more intentional professional development opportunities. The council began the year with a presentation by Col. Bradley Spears on team building, and creating a vision and mission statement to rally around. The students then defined their vision statement: "The Leading EDGE Council believes in creating an interconnected, inclusive community by building ethical leaders driven by passion and curiosity". To further their mission, the Leading EDGE Council held a workshop with Walt Morgan on how to find their "Why" and create a mission statement: "The Leading EDGE Council fosters leadership development in its members so they can inspire leadership growth and connectivity for the Boulder campus and greater community. We will leave a legacy of inclusive leadership".

The chair of the Leading EDGE Council, Brian Muriithi, has been a part of the group from the very beginning. Brian is a fifth year majoring in Creative Technology and Design, minoring in Leadership, with a certificate through the Engineering Leadership Program. Brian is originally from Aurora, Colorado and grew up in a tight-knit community of first and second-generation Kenyan immigrants. His experiences growing up in this environment led to his community-building style of leadership. In 2021, Brian was one of the students selected for the Center for Leadership’s Student Leader of the Year Award. As is the chair of the Leading EDGE, Brian hopes to continue to spur growth within the organization. Outside of leadership, Brian also enjoys photography, videography, and making music. He hopes he can use his creativity and leadership skills to inspire younger generations to build a brighter future.
