Iranian citizens: Impact of suspension of General License G

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a rule on Aug. 24, 2026, indefinitely suspending Iran General License G of the Iranian transactions and sanctions regulations.

This suspension does not impact Iranian citizens who are in the United States maintaining a valid U.S. immigration status, such as F, H, and J visa holders, as long as they only engage in activities allowed under their visa status. CU Boulder remains committed to supporting these valued members of our community.

However, you should not travel internationally without first reading carefully the specific activities previously allowed under General License G that are now suspended.
