With the support of the HR Service Center, ISSS is implementing new processes to help increase the functionality of the MyISSS portal for exchange visitors and improve university record-keeping of international exchange visitors present on the CU Boulder campus.

Effective April 3, 2023, departments must add a Person of Interest (POI) in HCM (directly or with the assistance of the HR Service Center) for all incoming J-1 exchange visitor scholars and interns prior to taking any actions in the MyISSS Departmental Services Portal.

A POI record must be created in HCM PRIOR to completing the Add New Person form and initiating the DS-2019 Request(Scholar) in the MyISSS Departmental Services portal.

  • Departments will enter the Employee ID from the HCM record in the Add New Person e-form when creating a profile record for the prospective J-1 exchange visitor in the MyISSS system.

    • If a prospective exchange visitor already has an HCM record, update it to reflect the new exchange visitor program information.
    • If a prospective exchange visitor already has a MyISSS record, do NOT submit the Add New Person e-form in the MyISSS Departmental Services portal. Update their HCM record to reflect the exchange visitor program information and then initiate the DS-2019 Request ( Scholar). You will be asked to link the record to the new request by entering the prospective exchange visitor scholar’s University/Employee ID (from HCM) and date of birth.

To further support you with this new process, ISSS updated its DS-2019 request resources to include the POI step and has added additional POI and HCM resources to our Scholar (J-1 Exchange Visitors) Request webpage, J-1 Student Intern Procedures webpage, and MyISSS Departmental Services Portal webpage.

This new, first step of creating an HCM record will provide every J-1 scholar and student intern with a University ID and Network ID required to log into the MyISSS full services portal to access important information and e-forms relevant to maintaining their nonimmigrant status.

Thank you in advance for your efforts complying with his new policy. It will be extremely beneficial to supporting our international scholars on campus.
