- And the winner is… INSTAAR presented four awards and three summer scholarships at the annual spring celebration luncheon last week. Recipients were commended for their impactful efforts at the institute, in the scientific community and beyond.
- ATLAS students visited INSTAAR's mountain research station to learn about the City of Boulder Watershed from field technician Jennifer Morse. The visit was part of a class on infrastructure and design through the lens of apocalyptic narratives.
- Long-Term Ecological Research Network communicator Gabriel De La Rosa spent three intense days on Niwot Ridge collecting the hundreds of data points that are a record of change in the alpine.
- For the past five years, a team of research assistants and volunteers have hiked up Niwot Ridge in late May to set the stage for a unique experiment in which they spread 5,000 pounds of black sand across portions of the remaining snowpack. Their goal is to simulate the near-future effects of a warming planet on alpine ecosystems.
