Chemical oceanography • Isotope geochemistry • Marine biogeochemistry

I am a chemical oceanographer interested using stable isotope geochemistry of non-traditional systems (non-CHONs like barium and silicon) to investigate biogeochemical cycling in the world's oceans.

I'm particularly interested in fluid-mineral interactions and the role of microbial metabolisms in creating microenvironments that allow otherwise thermodynamically inaccessible geochemical reactions to occur. I also spend a lot of time thinking about the role of the Southern Ocean in mediating global climate and the processes influencing isotopic signatures of marine sediments, which act as paleoclimate records.
