Advisor: Professor Sutter • Miles Hubble is a PhD candidate specializing in the environmental and intellectual history of the radical American Right. His dissertation, "To Eat the Flesh of Kings: Armageddon and Survival in America, 1926-2026," elucidates the genealogy of the survivalist and prepping movements in the United States from the Great Depression to the present day. A history of reason in an age of insanity, the project focuses on the place of nature in both secular and Evangelical eschatological praxis: nature as garden, refuge, and tactical redoubt.
Miles graduated with honors from the University of Chicago with bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and media studies, which were followed by a master’s degree in communication from the University of Southern California Annenberg School. At CU, Miles teaches courses on the history of apocalyptic ideas. His work is informed by his commitment to alternative revolutionary imaginaries — which are always already bound up in the (im)possibility of authentic desire.
