Advisor: Professor Ciarlo • Mathew Greenlee is a PhD candidate specializing in the history of modern Germany. His dissertation project focuses on the emotional history of Weimar Germany, investigating collective emotions like national honor, national humiliation, and national shame. His ancillary interests include histories of fascism, the Enlightenment, the French Revolution, as well as the broader field of memory studies. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Denver in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in history and international studies alongside minors in philosophy and economics.
At CU, Mathew teaches courses in European history, including Empire, Revolution, and Global War: European History from 1500 to the Present. He is also interested in teaching the history of fascism, German history, and the long Nineteenth Century.
