Advisor: Professor Dauverd • Benjamin grew up in Austin and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin with a focus in communications and art history. He served as a secondary education volunteer with the Peace Corps in Burkina Faso, West Africa and has since worked and served in many leadership roles in nonprofit and association-facing sectors. Benjamin is an MA student studying early modern Europe and Museum Studies. His research centers on concepts of self-representation, cultural memory, and diaspora during early campaigns of colonization. His inquiry leverages portraiture and literary works to explore the complexity of cultural hybridity that developed between the Gaelic-Irish and English as a critical analysis into identity surrounding the sixteenth century colonization of Ireland.
