Angela BielefeldtProfessor Angela Bielefeldt will serve as the new director of the College of Engineering and Applied Science’s Engineering Plus program beginning July 1, 2019. Bielefeldt will be replacing Jackie Sullivan and Derek Reamon, who co-directed the program since 2013.

In 1996, Bielefeldt came to CU Boulder as a faculty member in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering. From 2006 to 2010, she served as the Environmental Engineering program director. Bielefeldt is an active member in the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology assessment and has served as chair of the CEAS First-Level Review Committee. Her research focus is on engineering education and sustainable water and wastewater treatment in developing communities.

Engineering Plus is a diverse engineering degree program that offers an engineering education through the combination of core engineering classes, an emphasis in a particular engineering field, and a selection of 18 concentration areas. The curriculum includes multiple team-based design courses that enable students to gain confidence in leadership and collaboration. A degree in Engineering Plus prepares graduates for an exciting and ever-changing professional career throughout a copious amount of disciplines.

“I am very excited to join E+ program,” Bielefeldt  said. “I support the philosophy of student choice and design that are embedded in the E+ curriculum. Engineering tasks 20 years in the future are impossible to envision today, so allowing students flexibility to chart their own course and find their passion may be the surest way to meet unforeseen challenges.  “Jacquelyn Sullivan and Derek Reamon have gotten the E+ program off to a strong start. I am looking forward to joining the amazing group of E+ faculty and staff, helping our students reach their goals.”
