The Global Sustainability Scholars Program is now accepting applications from graduate students from partnering Universities (CSU, CU Boulder, and GMU).  In collaboration with  Future Earth, we have launched an exciting opportunity that we are calling a GSS Fellow “PLUS”.  This is an opportunity to become a GSS Fellow, which offers a paid - 10 week professional experience, traveling abroad with GSS Scholars and surveying international research teams focused on urban sustainability in food, energy and water nexus - “PLUS” after the summer experience, the Fellow will work with Future Earth up to 50% time for the following 9 months coordinating the Future Earth SUGI NEXUS projects.

How it works. Accepted GSS Fellows will travel to Seattle, UK, and locations in Germany with the GSS Program, while working with Future Earth and interacting with international research teams funded under the Belmont Forum Sustainable Urbanization Global Initiative Forum Food Water Energy Nexus funding program. During this time, the Fellow will work closely with the lead instructor and Future Earth staff to understand what each international research team can bring to cross-team collaborations, and to develop, support and implement coordination structures for the research teams.  Fellows may also develop one or two learning experiences for the GSS scholars during their travels to different research sites.  Fellows are paid a stipend of $8000 for their full participation in the program during the summer.  After the ten weeks, fellows will be paid hourly  for up to 20 hrs /week (Fall 2019 and Spring 2020) to continue their work with Future Earth coordinating projects and meetings with 15 international research teams that work on food, energy, and water sustainability.

Details: Fellows will travel with GSS Scholars abroad, engaging with international sustainability researchers and stakeholders working on cross-disciplinary research that addresses sustainability issues in the food, water, energy nexus in urban environments. Site locations will include, US, UK, and Germany. Travel and lodging is covered by GSS program. Fellows are responsible for their own meals and incidentals.

Who Can Apply to Be a Fellow?

  • Applicants should be graduate students in good standing with any of the following University Partners: CU Boulder, Colorado State University, or George Mason University and working on a graduate degree related to sustainability.
  • Applicants must be US citizens and have a valid US passport.
