Graduate Assistantship - Oregon State University
A Graduate Research Assistantship is available in the Water Resources Graduate Program (https://gradwater.oregonstate.edu/) at Oregon State University starting in Summer 2019. The successful applicant will pursue a PhD and will join the Community Snow Observations (communitysnowobs.org) project, a NASA-funded project conducted by the University of Alaska, University of Washington, and Oregon State University. The research assistant (RA) will be responsible for carrying out high-resolution, energy balance modeling of snow processes in mountain environments, with emphasis on innovative assimilation techniques for model improvement. Preferred qualifications include a background in water resources engineering, physical hydrology, or cryospheric science; skills in Fortran, Matlab or Python; and familiarity with processing of large geospatial datasets. An ability to operate (skis, snowshoes, or splitboard) independently in remote winter environments is necessary. An ability to operate well in a collaborative environment is essential.
