Announcement of Upcoming 2018 National Enforcement Investigations Center Technical Information Exchange and Call for Presentation Proposals

Please join us for the 2nd annual National Enforcement Investigations Center Technical Information Exchange, hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance's National Enforcement Investigations Center (NEIC).

Based in Denver, Colorado, NEIC provides technical support to complex criminal and civil investigations for EPA enforcement programs across the country. A central tenet of NEIC’s mission is to protect human health and the environment by serving as EPA’s fully ISO-accredited forensics laboratory and by providing multi-disciplinary expert teams to support criminal and civil enforcement partners by gathering and providing legally defensible data, performing engineering evaluations, and analyzing forensic evidence.
NEIC is hosting this Technical Information Exchange to facilitate cooperation, innovation, and further development in the field of environmental monitoring and hazard assessment. The Technical Information Exchange will consider both fundamental advances in detection and quantification technology as well as improved and innovative uses of existing technology. Additionally, the Technical Information Exchange will provide a forum for discussion and further collaboration on research and development (R&D) focused on all aspects of the applications of science in the detection and quantification of environmental hazards. Leveraging advancements made in the state of the science can improve the effectiveness and decrease the cost of data gathering and analytics across agencies and organizations.
For 2018, the Technical Information Exchange plans to feature presentations from Federal, State, local, and private partners relating to the following topics:

• New chemical, biological, and radiological monitoring and detection methodologies regarding lab measurement or field sampling activities involved in the detection and identification of pollutants, including chemical, biological, and radiological hazards.
• Regional, State, and local initiatives highlighting local priorities, challenges, and science and technology developments related to characterizing the presence, fate, and transport of both widespread chemicals or site-specific environmental agents.
• Combining ambient and compliance monitoring information, including detection of releases from ambient data, receptor modeling approaches for characterizing sources of releases, and use of remote sensing approaches to detect of characterize releases.
• Application of technologies from emergency response and homeland security, including examples of work supporting large-scale natural disaster response efforts.
• Design and application of networks of environmental sensors, including applications for the detection and characterization of contaminants, data processing and statistical analysis of networked data, and network design to facilitate source characterization.
• Bench to field success stories, including examples of technologies that bridge the gap between exploratory R&D and lab or field applications pertaining to the identification or quantification of pollutants and environmental hazards.
Call for Presentation Proposals:

Interested presenters are invited to submit abstracts of 250-400 words in length for consideration to Brad Venner of NEIC at
Members of the organizing committee will review abstracts for originality, structure, and relevance to the intended technical focus of the conference. Abstract-submitting authors will be informed of the acceptance of their abstract as an oral presentation no later than 3 weeks following the due date for the abstract submission of June 8, 2018.
