There are numerous informational meetings for summer study abroad Global Seminars (faculty-led programs) in the coming weeks. 

Below is a list of the upcoming study abroad Global Seminar informational meetings.  These are short-term faculty-led programs offered in the summer. Class sizes are between 10 and 25 students, so they are an excellent opportunity for your students to get to learn on-site from CU-Boulder faculty.

Most programs are open to all majors unless otherwise specified. Deadlines vary (most are between February 1st and March 1st, 2016) but programs can fill before the deadline.

International Operations in Hong Kong

KOBL 203, 5:00-6:00

Travel to Hong Kong, China this summer and study Operations Management in one of the largest trading centers in Asia. You will engage in daily site visits to local businesses and learn first-hand about manufacturing in mainland China during an overnight field trip to Guangdong Province. Earn 3 credits for INBU 4151: International Operations (equivalent to MGMT 4150). This course fulfills a core equivalent for the Global Experience requirement of the Global Business Certificate, counts towards Operations Management major requirements, and has been approved for engineering students as a General Technical Elective.

London: Finance Seminar

Study international finance in London this summer. This seminar includes lectures from prominent financial professionals and field trips to sites such as Lloyd’s of London, Bloomberg… and Paris! Earn 6 upper-division credits through FNCE 4060 or MBAC 6060. This course counts towards business electives and fulfills the Global Experience requirement for the Global Business Certificate. Eligibility requirements include a minimum 2.5 GPA and coursework in Business or Economics.

Entrepreneurship & Empowerment in South Africa

Want to spend your summer in South Africa gaining hands on experience as a consultant? Earn 6 credits in 6 weeks while helping emerging entrepreneurs in the townships surrounding Cape Town. Students form consulting teams with local South African students to develop deliverables for clients. Make a difference and enhance your resume! Program directed by Erick Mueller, Leeds School of Business. Students earn 6 upper-division credit hours for INBU 4825. Credit counts towards business electives, fulfills the Global Experience requirement for the Global Business Certificate, or counts as internship credit for both the Entrepreneurship Certificate as well as the Cross Campus Entrepreneurship Certificate. Conservation Biology & Practice in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest

Earn three credits this May in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest on this exciting CU-Boulder Global Seminar.  Obtain hands-on experience in the principles and practice of conservation biology.  Experience operational conservation programs in the Serra do Mar Biodiversity Corridor, participate in community-based conservation solutions, and much more. Students from a range of disciplines with an interest in conservation are encouraged to apply.  Offered as EBIO 4340/5340 and ENVS 4340/5340, this course fulfills the EBIO Lab/Field and 4000-course major requirements and ENVS's application and specialization requirements.

Operations Management in Valencia, Spain

Complete Operations Management this summer in Spain!  Travel to Valencia this summer and study Management in one of Spain's most exciting cities. You will engage in site visits to local businesses and learn first-hand about Spanish and international companies. Students receive 3 upper-division credits while taking BCOR 2500. This course fulfills the International Experience requirement for the International Business Certificate.

Literary London: Virginia Woolf On-Site

Spend three weeks studying Virginia Woolf’s work on site – in London! Experience the life and work of Woolf first-hand as you visit important literary sites such as Monk’s House, Charleston, Kew Gardens, and Sissinghurst. This program a 3000-level English course directed by Jane Garrity, examines the ways that London and its environs impacted Woolf’s vision of the English nation.

Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation in Cocle, Panama

Panama is considered the fourth strongest economy in Latin America and one of the top 20 fastest growing economies in the world.  However, strong economic performance has not translated into broadly shared prosperity. Participate in this highly immersive, impactful seminar to experience the ways in which business solutions can be applied to address social and environmental challenges. This program takes place in May.

Evolution of Building Construction: Historic Crossroads

ECCR 116, 5:30-6:00

Study building construction in the beautiful city of Valencia this summer!  While earning credit for AREN 2050, you can examine world-renowned architectural works in Spain.  A 2-day field trip to Barcelona is also included, and all Engineering students are guaranteed a $750-$1,500 scholarship.  The course counts as a technical elective for many engineering majors and towards certain requirements for ENVD majors.

This seminar fulfills one course towards the Engineering Management Certificate.
