Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace (ESJP) Conference 3-6 September 2015, Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, USA

Call for Contributions (target: 1 June 2015) and Papers (optional, 1 September 2015)

The 11th annual international Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace (ESJP) Conference will be held in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, 3-6 September 2015. The hosts are the investigators of the project “Cultivating Responsible Wellbeing in STEM: Social Engagement through Personal Ethics” (NSF #1449489) and CoHemis (Centro Hemisférico de Cooperación en Investigación y Educación en Ingeniería y Ciencia Aplicada).

They invite proposals for contributions on any topic that offer thoughtful, grounded inquiry and insight into the intersections of engineering with social justice and/or peace. Topics of particular interest related to the host project are “responsible wellbeing”, “appropriate technology”, “capabilities approach”, “value sensitive design”, “participatory design”, and “community engagement”. Also, given the conference location of Puerto Rico, proposals are invited that explore the impacts of colonialism and neocolonialism on social justice, engineering, and technology.
