This session will provide a chance to hear from and have conversations with leading experts on the technical areas underlying ChatGPT and other generative AI, the uses of generative AI in university and K-12 education, and the ethical and societal issues associated with generative AI tools.

Senior Director of Student Professional Development Ben Weihrauch recently completed his PhD dissertation on the determinants of persistence and graduation outcomes of CU Engineering first-generation students (FGS) from the student perspective. The study set out to illuminate both the challenges FGS experience and how they leveraged their status as an asset. Join Weihrauch for a presentation of his findings and engage in conversation to discuss ways to improve FGS persistence and graduation outcomes within the scope of our individual roles and departments.

Shelly Miller of Rady Mechanical Engineering and the Environmental Engineering Program will deliver her lecture, “Life Lessons on the Path to Improving Urban Air Quality & Public Health,” on April 20. The event is open to the entire campus community, and advanced registration is requested.

The Engineering Excellence Fund invites faculty and staff to the 2023 EEF Annual Symposium, which will highlight the innovative projects undertaken by students, faculty and staff of the College of Engineering and Applied Science in recent years. Let’s show our support for those who have dedicated themselves to pushing the boundaries of engineering education within the college.

Russ Moore will host a virtual Provost Open Forum for the College of Engineering and Applied Science on April 26. Students, faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend, ask questions, and engage in dialogue regarding the activities of the Division of Academic Affairs.

A complete view and understanding of the surface of material structures on multiple length-scales is only possible via more than one or complimentary characterization techniques. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about three surface analysis techniques: Low Energy Ion Scattering Spectroscopy (LEIS); X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS); and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The workshop is $225 for CU Boulder participants, and advance registration is required.
