Collaborative, or group, exams
Students complete an exam individually, and then in a group, providing additional feedback and incentive to understand the material.


Concept Maps
Visual representations of the connections between major topics, useful for getting information on student understanding.


Diagnoser
A set of instruction an assessment tools in mathematics and science, used for eliciting students ideas.


Oral assessments
Developed in the CU APPM department. Students attend orals in small groups, and are quizzed by a facilitator with conceptual questions as preparation for a written exam.


Peer Review
Students review and comment on work done by their peers, in a structured format.


Portfolios
Long-term documentation of student mastery of course material.


Scoring Rubrics
Explicit statements of what types of student work will be able to know and do to receive a particular grade.

Classroom Observation Protocol for Undergraduate STEM (COPUS)
Developed by the sister program of the Colorado SEI, this classroom observation protocol is adapted from the COPUS to identify how faculty and students are spending classroom time.


Colorado Learning Attitudes about Science Survey (CLASS)
Developed at CU Boulder, assessment to identify student beliefs about learning physics, chemistry, and biology.


Reformed Teaching Observation Protocol (RTOP)
Observation tool to describe lesson design, implementation, and culture in K12.

Draws on RTOP and TDOP


Teaching Dimensions Observation Protocol (TDOP)
