Campus support and resources regarding a missing student case
Feb. 15, 2025
Dear CU Boulder Community,
As you may have seen, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release this evening announcing that an individual matching the description of a CU Boulder student reported missing to CUPD on Wednesday, Feb. 12 was found deceased today. We understand that this news is devastating to members of our campus community, and we also understand that you may have many more questions about the details of the announcement by the sheriff’s office.
The loss of a member of our community impacts our campus. Our hearts go out to family, friends and community members of those that we lose. We also have support resources available in the coming days, weeks and months to support community members as they process grief.
The Division of Student Affairs is working closely with the family of the missing student and impacted student communities to provide support during this incredibly difficult time. We have also added additional Health & Wellness resources to support our Buff community members, including:
- The Office of Victim Assistance (OVA) provides free, confidential trauma-specific counseling and advocacy/support to individuals who have experienced/witnessed a potentially traumatic or life disruptive event. OVA offers 24/7 phone support at 303-492-8855. OVA will offer Drop-in hours on Sunday, February 16 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at C4C N450.
- Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) provides free, confidential mental health services for students to address a variety. CAPS offers 24/7 phone support at 303-492-2277. CAPS will offer a virtual Let’s Talk check-in on Sunday, February 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. that students may join via Zoom.
- Students may also access 24/7 telehealth counseling through Academic LiveCare.
- Dean of Students Office (DOS) provides students any other form of support not listed above to help them succeed. DOS understands that recovery and needs after traumatic events can vary. Please reach out to our team in the Dean of Students Office through email at deanofstudents@colorado.edu or 303-492-9048.
- Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers free and confidential counseling and consulting services to employees, both in-person and via telehealth during business hours. FSAP can be reached at www.colorado.edu/fsap or 303-492-3020.
- Additional Health & Wellness events and support are also beginning tomorrow.
Out of respect for the impacted family and our community partners, we cannot provide additional information at this time. We understand this is not comforting, and we would like to explain why. When a death occurs in Boulder County, the Boulder County Coroner’s Office must first identify the individual and determine cause of death.
This death remains under investigation by the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and the university will continue to work with our county partners throughout the process. When new, confirmed information becomes available and is able to be shared, CUPD will communicate those updates to the campus on their website and social media, @cuboulderpolice.
Please take care of yourselves and each other, Buffs.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Justin Schwartz
Dr. D’Andra Mull, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
