Ethnic Studies

Alana is a PhD student in Comparative Ethnic Studies, with a focus on Native American and Indigenous studies. Prior to joining the Ethnic Studies department at CU, Alana received her Master's in Archaeology from the University of Oxford (UK). Alana’s current research interests focus on the intersections between sexualized and racialized violence, specifically that experienced by Indigenous women, girls, and 2S individuals. Her previous work focused on the role of biopolitics and necropolitics in archaeology, with an emphasis on the underlying dynamics of race and racialization that influence the relationships between archaeologists and Indigenous communities when working with ancestral remains.
