My research and teaching interests combine various aspects of the geological and biological sciences with the goal of understanding how microbial life has shaped the Earth’s surface chemistry in the past and how it continues to do so today. My research's current focus is primarily aimed at understanding (and reconstituting) environmentally relevant growth conditions and uncovering the physiological basis and environmental production of biological signatures (isotopic, molecular and mineralogical).
