Dissertation: Californio Local Liberalism: The Lasting Impact of Mexican Ideologies in California, 1848-1890

Citlali Sosa-Riddell is an instructor at Pierce College in Los Angeles.  She recently completed her Ph.D. in American history from UCLA with an emphasis on Mexican and Latin American intellectual history in the U.S. borderlands and is now working on a book project that examines the Mexican American borderlands in the nineteenth century and their ideas about race and national identity in California.  Her specific focus is on the intellectual work of the Mexican American population in California as they engaged with American and Latin American racial ideas in the aftermath of national independence from the colonial power.
