Dominic Thomas is Madeleine Letessier Professor of French and Francophone Studies in the Department of European Languages and Transcultural Studies (which he previously chaired) at the University of California Los Angeles and Gutenberg Chair in Ecology and Propaganda at the University of Strasbourg. He is currently Chair of Digital Humanities, CNN/CNN International European Affairs Commentator, and author, co-author, editor and co-editor of numerous books that include: Black France, Colonial Culture in France since the Revolution, Museums in Postcolonial Europe, The Charlie Hebdo events and their aftermath, Sexe, race et colonies, Histoire globale de la France coloniale, Colonisation & Propagande, Olympisme, une autre histoire du monde, Quatre degrés celcius entre toi et moi: Climatique littéraire, and Climates of Migration. He was awarded the inaugural Barbara Cassin Prize for Excellence in Translation in 2025, and has translated works by Aimé Césaire, Alain Mabanckou, Sony Labou Tansi, Abdourahman Waberi, and Emmanuel Dongala.
