HIVE Attendant

ALTEC continuously seeks students to join the HIVE staff. Attendants work under the supervision of the program assistant in the HIVE located in Hellems 159. Student employees typically work 10-15 hours per week between 8:45am-7pm Monday-Thursday and 8:45am-4pm Friday, depending on scheduling needs.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service, including:

    • Assist patrons to check out resource materials; check & reshelve returned materials

    • Problem solve technical issues with classroom computers and projectors

    • Manage Hellems building lost and found

    • Direct patrons to classroom and office locations as well as the wepa printing kiosk

  • Update catalog of world language resources, and improve usage and efficiancy 

  • Monitor usage and maintain cleanliness and organization of ALTEC spaces

  • Fulfill room reservation requests and help with event setup

  • Complete assigned daily tasks (email overdue material notices, water plants, etc.)

  • Contribute to workflow of special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Begin and end each shift at designated time; find coverage for shifts in advance of absence
  • Adhere to security procedures and established policies
  • Exceptional customer service support skills represented through:
    • Respectful & professional interactions with patrons in person/ on the phone/ via email
    • Positive, enthusiastic attitude
    • Clear and professional oral and written communication
    • Observant of often-overlooked details; identifies areas needing improvement and takes the initiative to make or suggest changes
    • Consultation with supervisor or other ALTEC staff on non-standard requests or issues
  • Comfortable with using PC and Mac computers and various electronic equipment such as video cameras; willingness to learn new hardware and software for special projects such as used in audio recording studio or to complete streaming requests (requires ripping and compressing DVD files, and creating a subtitles/ captions file)
  • Collaborate well with colleagues on projects assigned to multiple staff members
  • Ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion and seek out additional work upon completion

Compensation

This position starts at $15 per hour.
