You worked hard for your bachelor’s degree, but what’s next? Deciding on your next step may leave you filled with doubt and uncertainty, but Career Services is here to support you after graduation as well!

The following statements may describe how you’re feeling right now with what’s next. Choose the statement that best describes how you feel. Then, choose one suggestion below the statement to complete in the next week.

  • First, determine when you need income coming in and how much you need to live. The average job search takes 3-6 months, so it might make sense to ensure you have some income through a part-time or temporary job as you figure out your next steps.
  • Use the Finding a Career Path suggestions to begin exploring your career options.
  • Take the free YouScience assessment to help identify your aptitudes and interests and career options that relate to those.
  • Assess your skills and determine what types of work they apply to.
  • Use the Challenge Cards activity to discover the challenges to tackle instead of focusing on job titles to fit into.
  • Connect with a career development advisor to explore possible careers through a small group or individual appointment.

  • Most new graduates find a job after they graduate. You’re not the only one without a job immediately after graduation!
  • Job searching is not a quick process and typically takes about six months. 
  • Make a job search plan so you can feel confident that you’re approaching your job search in a systematic way.

  • Whether or not to go to graduate school is an important decision. It is a big investment in both time and money. Review some things to consider with graduate school to clarify your interests.
  • Research the career you’re interested in and determine if grad school is needed to get started in that field.  Use O*Net or professional associations to get that information.
  • Conduct informational interviews with people who are working in the same jobs or industries that you are considering to get a better idea of when and why they pursued a graduate degree.
