Recruitment

Departments and Programs in Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences

Process:

  • Each semester, Unit determines temporary faculty appointees according to teaching needs and ensures employment eligibility (i.e., Lecturers may teach up to four courses, or the equivalent (up to 12 credit hours total), each semester, including courses taught on all CU campuses and through Continuing Education).
    • Typically, lecturer appointments are not posted and recruited for on CU Careers, but rather sourced at the department/program level. However, if there is a need to recruit a lecturer through CU Careers, the unit should follow the recruitment process for Visiting Faculty.
      • HRSC will process the background check (BGC) when they receive the request to hire. For rehires, the HRSC will determine if an updated BGC is required.
  • Faculty appointee completes Courses Agreed to Teach Grid (CATTG) and submits to Unit.
    • The CATTG must be completed and signed by the faculty member, rather than by department/program staff on the faculty member’s behalf, and must include all courses taught by the faculty member within the CU System in each term. The purpose of the CATTG is to ensure that faculty members are aware of their full teaching load (including courses in multiple academic units, e.g. Continuing Education) and take responsibility for complying with University policy.
  • Unit submits the following to Faculty Affairs Coordinator for review via email at CAS-Faculty@Colorado.edu
  • Submitted HRSC Spreadsheet reviewed by A&S Faculty Affairs Coordinator.
    • If the spreadsheet is incomplete, or formatted incorrectly, it will be returned to the unit for completion.
  • Once approved by A&S Faculty Affairs Coordinator, A&S Faculty Affairs uses the submitted HRSC Spreadsheet to create a mail merged offer letter for all lecturer, adjunct, and adjoint hires on the HRSC Spreadsheet.
  • A&S Faculty Affairs Coordinator routes final, approved offer letters for all signatures via DocuSign with cc: to the following:
    • Human Resources Service Center
  • Once the letter is routed in DocuSign, the first approver will be the department/program coordinator; the coordinator should review the letter for accuracy, and initial next to the department chair/program director’s signature line once they have confirmed all details are correct. The department/program coordinator will also be prompted to upload two files for inclusion in the DocuSign envelope with a paperclip icon. The department/program coordinator uploads the faculty member’s CV and the faculty member’s completed CATTG to the DocuSign envelope. Once attached, these files are included in the envelope for all future signers to review.
  • If new hire, Unit follows HRSC procedures to submit personal information.
  • Appointment entered in HCM by the College of Arts and Sciences' Central Human Resources Service Center.
  • If applicable, Unit dispositions candidates and requests that the College of Arts and Sciences' Human Resources Manager close the posting in CU Careers.
  • If any changes to the offer letter are needed after approval, fill out an addendum form.

COURSE CANCELLATIONS, should be communicated to the HRSC and to CAS-Faculty@Colorado.edu
