The wood shop is a welcoming space where Art and Art History students, staff, and faculty can build valuable skills in pursuit of their creative research and projects. The wood shop offers a wide range of tools and processes, spanning from antique hand tools to modern digital fabrication equipment. Staff work to provide students with many options and possibilities as they explore technical and creative problem-solving. This valuable work space supports a wide variety of classes and coursework across the Art and Art History curriculum.
An abundance of high-quality bench tools, hand tools, and machinery is available. Modern amenities, such as downdraft tables, a high-end dust collection system, a spray booth, and electrical drops above benches promote health, safety, and efficiency.
The wood shop safety orientation (completed online through Canvas) is required for anyone that wishes to use the wood shop. Students must be currently enrolled in an Art and Art History class before logging in with their identikey. Once the online wood shop orientation has been completed, additional demonstrations and training may be required in-person. Students must check in with wood shop staff before beginning work.
