Registration is Now Open for the Summer 2021 Session — “Home Places”

Explore the Art + Rural Environments Field School

The Art + Rural Environments Field School is a post-studio art program for highly creative and critical students interested in the intersection of art and the rural environment. The Field School is an opportunity for students to engage in direct experiences in rural America and Indian Country through the processes of creation, reflection, and exchange. Through seminars and field-based exercises including writing, photography, sound recording, drawing, mapping and journaling, students gain an in-depth understanding of contemporary art in a rural context. Course credit (6) is available at the advanced studio art/arts practices undergraduate level (ARTS 4444) and graduate level (ARTS 5444).

Museums and Indigenous Art...
In this course, we will explore the historical and contemporary arts of Indigenous peoples of the Southwest, Great Plains, and Southeast. We will become familiar with Indigenous art collections at the University of Colorado Boulder Museum of Natural History and Art Museum through close looking workshops on Zoom, with an assignment at History Colorado. We will meet with curators and collections managers to learn about exhibition and museum practices, and invite performance artist, muralist, and activist Gregg Deal (Pyramid Lake Paiute) as guest speaker. This is an opportunity for students to engage with historical and contemporary Indigenous arts in their richness, diversity, and temporal depth.

Upcoming Application Deadlines

Post-Baccalaureate

Application deadline: April 15 — For Fall semester

Our Post-Baccalaureate option is for artists who have finished their undergraduate degree and would like additional time and space to develop work while immersed in a dynamic community of artists. During their time at CU, post-bac students develop lasting professional relationships with their peers and faculty, relationships that often continue to influence their work as artists throughout their professional careers. Students may participate in the Post-Baccalaureate option for one or two semesters.

The post-bac option is a non-certificate program and does not qualify for financial aid.

Honors

Due: Tuesday, April 27

To graduate with Honors, you should have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA.

The faculty representative to contact regarding filing for Honors is Marina Kassianidou for Art Practices (marina.kassianidou@colorado.edu) or Robert Nauman for Art History (robert.nauman@colorado.edu).

Graduation with Honors requires an additional studio project or art history thesis project.
