Abby Bennett: Practicum Speakers Series
TONIGHT! Tuesday, February 14 at 6:30pm
Visual Arts Complex, Auditorium - 1B20
 1085 18th Street, Boulder, CO 80309
Abby Bennett is the Operations Director at Demiurge: a Denver-based sculpture fabrication company responsible for hundreds of large-scale public art projects. After completing her MFA in Sculpture at CU Boulder she joined the Demiurge team where her focus has been on implementation and realization, through hands-on coordination between vendors and clients, from inception through fabrication and installation. With exacting standards and exhaustive know-how she has made possible a multitude of projects and brought to fruition her clients’ visions.
Abby’s mantra “let’s art-school it” can't be understated: whether it comes to the vicissitudes of logistics, material procurements and manipulations/fabrication, or the keen intuition required to overcome unforeseen hurdles with artistic creativity, her uncompromising insistence on excellence has proved itself time and again. Hers is a trajectory that demonstrates the efficacy of hard work and determination in a field where no quarters are given.
This series explores strategies to forge a sustainable, productive, fulfilling career in the arts. Speakers will discuss the trajectory and evolution of their art practices.
Shoshanna Weinberger: Visiting Artist Lecture
Tuesday, February 21
6:30 PM in the VAC complex auditorium 1B20
 1085 18th Street, Boulder, CO 80309
Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Shoshanna Weinberger received her MFA from Yale School of Art in 2003 and BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995. Living and working in Newark, NJ, since 2006, Weinberger’s work references her Caribbean-American background, which explores the complexity of heritage and the psychology of peripheral identity. She considers herself a visual anthropologist, cataloging and surveying these experiences that ultimately question notions of assumed beauty norms and identity through ongoing serial works that result in paintings, drawings, collages, mixed media, and sculptural installations. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in numerous invitational group and solo exhibitions. Weinberger is a five-time participant of the Jamaica Biennial from 2006 to 2017 held in Kingston, Jamaica; and included in the 2013 Martinique Biennale.
