Artist Statement

Nexo de mi Ser is a photographic series that explores my personal myth of identity through the depths of my unconscious. This work examines the impact of a hypermasculine environment through a dreamlike lens of bewilderment and anxiety, as I grapple with the dissonance between my inner and outer worlds. Guided by Carl Jung’s Psychology of the Unconscious and Sigmund Freud’s The Interpretation of Dreams, Nexo de mi Ser documents my inner journey as I confront my shadow, moving toward the liberation and acceptance of my Anima—my repressed inner self. I employ the wet plate collodion process for its dreamlike quality, allowing the imperfections of the process to mirror the fragility of memory, the weight of trauma, and the passage of time. The slow, deliberate nature of the medium enhances the work’s introspective and transformative qualities, connecting past and memory.
