Bocheng Zhang

Bocheng Zhang is a filmmaker from Tianjin, China. He received his BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. 

Bocheng is interested in the metaphorical connection between bodily pain and repressed history. Through a contemplative gaze at microscopic sites, his works search for traces of the body, sense its pain, and transform this experience into the presence of a specter dwelling within these sites. Working with digital video, 16mm film, and installations, He explores the inexpressible nature of both physical pain and historical realities—how they are sensorially felt in their occurrence but intellectually re-imagined in their representation.
