Topic: Looking back at 2017, looking forward to 2018

  • Tenth "anniversary" open house; 9 people in attendance because of holidays; we choose to look at what we have done in 2017 and where we want to be in 2018.
  • Kosta talked about the lab plans and achievements
    • We continue to work on core goals of in-depth testing - but we understand that it is a costly endeavor only possible for very high level projects; we continue to develop other lines of work as well.
    • This includes Amelia's database of accessibility issues, Kevin's research program in the lived experience of blind and low vision students on campus, and the training program lead by Amelia and Kosta.
    • Next year we plan to begin two new lines of work - assistive technology software support and the teaching program, both lead by Mike who is now part of AUL
    • We hope to strengthen our relationship with Disability Services next year - we find an increasing number of common interests as our work progresses and becomes more varied.
    • We will also have a close relationship with the web team at Strategic Relations - focusing primarily on automated testing, but allowing us to work on other related ideas as well.
  • For the Open House, we hope to have more speakers from AUL and beyond presenting next year, not just Kosta leading most sessions.
  • Laura also talked about plans for her unit - Canvas accessibility training, PDF remediation tools, and e-text recommendations.
  • There will be no Open House on January 2, but January 16 will be a great presentation from Amelia - a walk through a browsing experience of a screen reader user, discussing all the choices and the decisions that the user makes and correlating them with the design choices and structures that trigger them.
