The University of Colorado Connection

ExoPower

ExoPower was founded by Brandon Regensburger  (alum, CU Boulder Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering, CU Denver Electrical Engineering) and Khurram Afridi  (fmr., CU Boulder Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering) to commercialize their novel in-motion wireless charging technology for electric vehicles and material-handling equipment such as mobile robots and forklifts. Their system enables ‘in-use’ charging, allowing vehicles to recharge while in operation, boosting workforce productivity, extending battery life and reducing the need for oversized batteries. By eliminating downtime and the need to purchase extra equipment for multi-shift operations, ExoPower removes the hidden “charging tax” that often burdens automation projects. This innovation makes automation significantly more cost-effective and efficient.

The core technology was developed in the Power Electronics Lab at the University of Colorado Boulder, where Khurram Afridi served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, and Brandon Regensburger was his student.
