Editors: Hank Brown will speak on Reflections on My Years in Public Service, at a private luncheon at 12:30 p.m. preceding the public ceremony. Browns talk starts about 1 p.m. in the Aspen Room, 215-216, at the University Memorial Center. Reporters and photographers may attend, but should defer questions until the 2 p.m. ceremony.
Former U.S. Sen. Hank Brown (R-Colo.) will attend a ceremony Nov. 10 at the University of Colorado at Boulder in recognition of the donation of his congressional papers to the Archives of the University of Colorado Libraries.
The ceremony, hosted by Dean of Libraries Jim Williams, will begin at 2 p.m. at the Center for British Studies on the fifth floor of Norlin Library. The event and a reception to follow are free and open to the public.
Brown, who received a bachelors degree from CU in 1961 and a juris doctor from CUs School of Law in 1969, announced in November 1996 that he would donate his papers to the university.
Since then, 40 boxes of records from Browns 24 years of public service at the state and national levels have been sent to the Archives, joining the papers of former Colorado Congresswoman Patricia Schroeder and retired Sens. Gary Hart and Timothy Wirth, which were previously donated.
Bruce Montgomery, curator and director of the Archives, said Browns papers add substantially to our rapidly growing collection concerning Colorado politicians who have played an important role on the national stage.
Brown served in the U.S. Senate from 1990 to 1996, after representing Colorados 4th District in the House of Representatives from 1980 to 1990. Before being elected to national office, he served in the Colorado Senate from 1972 to 1976.
Sarah Elsberg, a CU junior and member of the Political Science Club co-sponsoring the ceremony, said Browns papers will be an excellent resource for students after the 10-year seal called for in the deposit agreement expires.
