Uplift Final Project

The Uplift Research Program is designed to give you the tools to become a great scientist and communicator of science; however, much of the work lies in redefining what this means for each individual. Professionalism and success does not look one specific way, but academia tends to celebrate those who succeed in similar ways, via journal articles and professional oral presentations. In keeping with our model and our larger mission of redefining what it means to be an excellent scientist, STEM Routes is widening the scope of deliverables regarding the scientific research you've worked on for the last year.

Deadlines & Submission

Your final project is due Monday 18 April 2022 at 11:59 p.m.. Please email your project to STEM_Routes@colorado.edu

If your file is too large to send via email, please transfer the file using WeTransfer.com

You must declare your project via the Final Project Survey by Monday 11 April at 11:59 p.m..

Deliverable

Each Uplift Scholar is required to submit a final presentation regarding their research at the end of the Uplift period. This requirement may be fulfilled using a medium of your choice, provided that your medium accurately and accessibly communicates your science. Some options are included below, however, you are not limited to selecting one of these options. You are certainly welcome to select another medium for your final project! Feel free to email STEM Routes or discuss options with your STEM Routes mentor regarding the format for your final presentation. Make sure that the medium you choose synergizes with the material you present, for example, if your research featured a lot of microscopy and visual data, maybe don't choose a podcast (unless you pair a podcast with a small infographic or reference images for context).

  • Poster
  • Oral Presentation (recorded)
  • Podcast
  • Infographic
  • Flipboard
  • Chalk talk (recorded)
  • YouTube Video or Vlog

The point of this exercise is to celebrate your accomplishments and contributions to your lab but also to give you the opportunity to practice conveying your science in an accessible way. We encourage you to get creative with this exercise!

Awards

On Friday 22 April, (location and time to be announced) STEM Routes is hosting a celebration event to honor the hard work you've all put into becoming amazing scientists. STEM Routes mentors will select the top favorite presentations to share at this event and post on our website for future Uplift Scholars to reference as they develop their own final projects in future Uplift cohorts. In order to be eligible for final prize selection, you must confirm (via the Final Project Survey) that you are comfortable with our posting your video on our website.
