Advertisement for the 2023 Out in STEM Symposium. For our 3rd annual Out in STEM Symposium, we hosted a professional panel of five speakers who spoke on their experiences being queer in the workplace, mentorship, and giving back to the LGBTQ+ community, as well as their advice for young LGBTQ+ STEM students. The panel was followed by an informal networking event, where attendees could speak with panelists one-on-one. The event was sponsored by the Pride Office and the Mechanical Engineering DEI Group. Amy Zuckerman

Amy Zuckerman is a director of environmental, social, governance, and engagement initiatives at Seagate. She works to align dozens of internal stakeholders from across departments in sustainability, HR, DEI, legal, and finance in this effort. She has also written a book about sexual orientation and the workplace back in 1997 and has served on the board of directors of Out Boulder County twice.

Katie Leonard

Katie Leonard works as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the Adolescent Family Planning Clinic at Children’s Hospital Colorado where she provides free and confidential sexual and reproductive health services to teens and young adults of all genders. Some of her favorite things in no particular order are: thank you waves in the car, bendy spatulas, being on time, and cabbages (both edible and ornamental varieties).

Ellie Wislinsky

Ellie Wislinsky graduated CU Boulder with an Electrical Engineering degree in 2019 and now works at FIRST RF up in Gunbarrel as an Radio Frequency Engineer. Some fun facts about her is that they like making crafts, costuming for cosplay, Magic: The Gathering, and D&D.

LJ Jones

LJ Jones was a math teacher in Denver Public Schools for 3 years before switching to a career in college access work. She helped first generation students and their families navigate the process of applying, attending, and ultimately graduating from college. For the past three years, she's worked at Callan, a financial investment consulting firm which supports pension plans, endowments, 529 plans, basically the kind of retirement plan with hundreds and and thousands of people involved. She works as an analyst - checking quarterly returns and cash flows, preparing reports, and doing some ad hoc research as clients have questions.

Gwendolyn James

Gwendolyn James works at Ursa Major, a relatively small Coloradoan rocket engine company where she works as a software and IT operations engineer coordinating infrastructure and writing tooling for Ursa Major's in-house software engineering teams.
