campus busWith break coming up soon, many students may be traveling out of the Boulder area. Whether you’re using public transportation or flying, here are some tips to help your traveling go smoothly.

1. Plan ahead

With more people traveling around holidays, roads and airports can get busy. Spend some time considering your different options and schedule for the day.

Whether you’re using a rideshare service or the RTD SkyRide bus to get to the Denver International Airport (DIA), plan to leave early. Give yourself extra time in case there’s traffic on the way or long security lines when you get to the airport. Review recent changes to DIA’s security checkpoints so you know where to go, and consider a back up plan in case there are changes to your flight itinerary.

2. Stay healthy

As a reminder, face masks are required on RTD public transportation and at all airports. Before you travel, check if there are any restrictions or public health guidelines in place at your travel destination you should be aware of. Some areas may require proof of vaccination or negative test results. Students can make an appointment to receive a COVID-19 PCR diagnostic test at the Public Health Clinic at Wardenburg. Results are typically available within 24 hours.

Continue to follow good hygiene practices to avoid a variety of illnesses while traveling:

  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer regularly. Before your trip, you can pick up a free travel-sized bottle of hand sanitizer from Health Promotion on the third floor of Wardenburg Health Center.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your sleeve.
  • Avoid touching your face.

3. Practice self-care

Traveling can be stressful for many people, especially around the holidays. Staying hydrated, sleeping 7-9 hours each night and eating regular balanced meals can help our bodies and immune systems stay strong. Remember to drink water throughout the day and pack snacks if you will be traveling for long periods. If you are feeling drowsy during the day, consider taking a quick 20-minute nap to recharge.

If you’re feeling stressed, remember that others may also be feeling the same way. Be patient, kind and courteous to those around you.
