One of the key themes in the R+PM Group has and continues to be the use of light as a stimulus to induce functional material responses. One example of this is the use of light to create mechanical work. So-called "photomechanical" effects in materials is a burgeoning area of research.
As a service to the community, I edited a book on the subject appearing in 2016: Photomechanical Effects in Materials, Composites, and Systems: Outlook and Future Challenges
