Just in time for the fall season, CU Boulder Today is spotlighting groundbreaking research from PhD candidate Elora Williams (Behavioral Neuroscience; mentored by Susanna Molas) and Assistant Professor Susanna Molas (Behavioral Neuroscience).

Their study explores the neuroscience behind jump scares, revealing how our brains respond to fear in real time. The research highlights the role of a tiny brain region called the interpeduncular nucleus (IPN), which helps us freeze, flee, and adapt when threats turn out to be false alarms.
