Louise Silvern, long-time faculty member, passes away

Long-time CU Psychology and Neuroscience faculty member Associate Professor (ret.) Louise Silvern (Clinical) passed on December 15, 2022.  She received her PhD from UCLA in 1972 and joined the department in 1974, where she was an active member of the faculty for over 40 years, retiring in 2016. Dr. Silvern’s research focused on child victimization and child psychotherapy, trauma, and family violence and she regularly mentored graduate students and undergraduate Honors Thesis students in conducting research on these topics. Dr. Silvern’s passion for helping maltreated children and victims of domestic violence carried over into her teaching, as she regularly taught courses in child maltreatment and child psychotherapy in the department. Throughout her career, she was also involved in a variety of outreach activities in the community, including serving as a consultant to the Boulder County Juvenile Probation Department and the Boulder County Safehouse.
