CU Psychology and Neuroscience Professor Leaf Van Boven (Social) and graduate student Alex Flores (Social) were in the news, being interviewed for an article in CU Boulder Today about some research of theirs appearing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). This research examined the impact of people's political persuasions on how they viewed various hypothetical proposals towards addressing the COVID-19 pandemic. When participants were told a particuar proposal was supported by their preferred political elite figure they were more likely to support it themselves, whereas if the same proposal was espoused by a political figure on the other side of the aisle they tendedto oppose it. When they were told a policy proposal was backed by a bipartisan coalition or neutral experts they were most likely to support it. Read the CU Boulder Today article or the original PNAS article.
